ABSTRACT

Thus, the male minister's spouse is more likely to be enslaved as a congregation's Cinderella while the female minister's spouse will likely live as a prince. The question then is: Why does this oppression of the minister's wife persist when we in the 1990s are supposedly part of a decade that is allowing women greater justice and self-determination? This is a perplexing problem. The churches in our society should be the leaders and modelers of equal status for every person regardless of gender. Unfortunately, traditional and oppressive attitudes persist.
