ABSTRACT

In the current study, we examined variations in HRM practices between TVEs and SFJVs. The purposes of the study are twofold. First, by contrasting the HRM practices of these two new, albeit important, forms of organizations, we hope to contribute to a better understanding of the human resource management practices in China. Second, we sought to determine if institutional theory, a product of Western organization theories, could account for variations in HRM practices in these two types of firms in China. By conducting this research, we hope to shed light on the culture-boundness of Western institutional theory in an eastern context.
