ABSTRACT

Complaints of repetition in early Key Stage 3 form the bulk of comments from Key Stage 2. Often the complaints are not based on empirical evidence (e.g. visits to the schools to observe teaching or curriculum liaison meetings); they more often than not arise from comments from ex-pupils’ parents or ex-pupils themselves on the occasional visits made to their previous schools. Such complaints will probably occur more in mathematics and science, where the content material is more tightly defined than in English and where the potential for a particular topic to be recapped is high.
