ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the crucial area of communication between schools and teachers and between schools and parents. School-to-school interaction is based on the exchange of academic and pastoral information on transferring pupils and on the ways in which this can be accomplished using conventional paperwork, liaison visits and meetings, and information technology. School-to-parent interaction has a different set of objectives, including informing them of the school’s quality and achievements and reassuring them of a secure environment for their children. The concepts and purposes underlying the processes are discussed in terms of good practice and the roles and responsibilities of teachers on both sides of the transition are explored.
