ABSTRACT

Vaccinium myrtillus L. is a small perennial shrub closely related to the blueberry. Included in the same family (Ericaceae) are many other berryproducing plants, such as cranberries and huckleberries, which obtain their color from anthocyanidins (flavonoid pigments). Generally, members of the Ericaceae family are native to the forests of Europe and also tend to grow well in the temperate areas of the United States (Cunio, 1993).
