ABSTRACT

As the demand for adventure activities has increased, so has the interest of providers of commercial adventure in activities becoming profitable. The effort expended by a whole generation of outdoor recreationists to have their high-risk endeavors become widely recognized, economically viable, and socially acceptable activities has resulted in a completely new service industry of adventure tourism. As adventure sports have evolved from what has historically been seen by much of society as antiestablishment behavior to a more mainstream, significant economic generator, increasing emphasis has been placed upon their business operations and profit potential. This chapter considers a number of selected topics that pertain to the operation of an adventure tourism business.
