ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of the sexual risk-taking behavior and HIV knowledge (by using an ethnographic approach) of the street boys attending programs at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) and the National Initiative for Street Children (NISC) in Kingston, Jamaica. The work was prompted by the growing incidence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection among young people in Jamaica and by the hypothesis

that street boys in Jamaica are at a higher than average risk of contracting HIV.
