ABSTRACT

Recall the definition of epidemiology: the study of the occurrence and distribution, cause and control, prevention and treatment of disease and other morbid conditions. Each part of this definition will be addressed throughout this text, and so it will be necessary to cover important epidemiological concepts and principles that relate to each part of the definition. While doing so, it is important to know that a concept is a general idea obtained or deduced from specific phenomena or happenings. A principle is the relationship between two or more concepts that acts as a rule of understanding. In epidemiology, there are several concepts and principles to explore, along with their health promotion and disease prevention implications.
