ABSTRACT
Since the Year of the Woman in 1992, several viable women candidates have run for national elective office. During the 2000 election cycle, Elizabeth Dole was initially viewed by many as a strong possible nominee for the Republican candidacy for President. Dole, however, pulled out of the race before the primary season even began.
