ABSTRACT

Pastors are acutely aware of the increasing demands on their time and resources to meet the needs of their aging church members. Examples of these needs are hospital, nursing home, and homebound visits. Help is needed navigating the medical care system; finding assistance in the home, especially for the frail elderly; providing guidance in health and medication concerns; arranging transportation to appointments; and providing support and respite care for caregivers and other family members. A parish nurse, who can speak the language of faith as well as the language of medicine and health, can address these needs.
