ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the essentials of preparing the research report. The basic purpose of the research report is to communicate the results, conclusions, and recommendations of the research project. (If a project encompasses several phases or a long period of time, progress reports are normally sent to the purchaser or user of the research to inform him or her of the progress to date on a given project.) The key word in the preceding statement of purpose is communicate. The report must be an effective tool of communication not only to accurately present the findings and conclusions, but also to stimulate the reader to some managerial action. The research project was predicated on the need for information to aid in the decision-making process. Now the cycle has been complete and the report must address that decision and recommend a course of action in view of the research findings. The user or purchaser of the information must decide whether or not to heed the advice given in the recommendation of the report, but the actions recommended by the researcher must be communicated.
