ABSTRACT

When people we know, respect, or love are unwell, or they are suffering from the inevitable consequences of aging, it is natural for us to want to do something to help them return to a place of good health and spiritual wholeness. Often these desires, although praiseworthy, are unrealistic. Since, in most instances, visitors, including clergy, cannot bring “help as curing,” we need to redefine what “being of help” means. This chapter addresses what actions we can take to make life better for compromised individuals.
