ABSTRACT

At moments in our lives we become aware that we are not alone. We long for a spiritual connection in a moment of crisis or sorrow, of joy or celebration. We may turn to Judaism for the appropriate prayer or ritual to meet this need, only to find that it does not exist. As Jewish relational caregivers we are called upon as the experts. When others turn to us for help, we may feel unprepared to step into this void. The truth is that we can turn to tradition to help us create something new that feels rooted in our past while meeting the needs of the present.
