ABSTRACT

In March of 1988, a suburban Chicago couple discovered upon their return from a Florida vacation that their $260,000 home had been ransacked. A subsequent investigation revealed what had happened. The couple's 20-year-old son, who remained at home while his parents vacationed, talked to a girl on a telephone party line and invited her to come over. The girl invited other youths to join them, and the ensuing party resulted in the theft of jewelry, appliances, and the family car as well as $25,000 in damage to the house. According to the news-paper report the parents indicated that their son has a learning disability.
