ABSTRACT

Specifically, we propose to update the 1972 NLS data base by merging it with the 1980 Sophomore High School and Beyond data base. (Descriptions of these national surveys appear in several chapters of this book.) In the case of the preceding example, we would apply the drop-out rates for the 1972 cohort to the numbers of the 1980 cohort beginning college in 1982 and thereby estimate the total number of college dropouts (for the 1980 Sophomore cohort).
