ABSTRACT

In view of the research literature, what were the expectations of the author in regard to the three questions listed earlier? First, in regard to mean change for the total sample since 1960, it was expected that, on balance, there would be little change. To the extent that the level of skill represents genetic factors, there should be no change and to the extent that the skill in question reflected experiential factors there would be a trade-off. Casual observation suggests that fewer contemporary students enroll in mechanical drawing and advanced math courses contributing to spatial-visual skills but, on the other hand, that more young peopleboth male and female-are exposed to mechanical and electronic toys, games, and gadgetry that may lead to spatial skills.
