ABSTRACT

The chapters in this volume address a number of issues related to visual processes in reading. Whereas some of the chapters deal with neurophysiological, neuropsychological, or psychological aspects of visual processes in normal reading (i.e., Parts II and III), many of the chapters address the role of visual processes in reading disability. There are also chapters that deal primarily with issues such as visual discomfort in reading and ergonomic factors in reading. My task is not to review the book or to discuss in detail any of the chapters. Rather, I was invited to provide some comments on future directions for research and theory in the areas of visual processes in normal and disabled reading.
