ABSTRACT

The current conceptions of text comprehension assume a multilevel representation of the text and of its content (Kintsch, 1988). The same textual elements occur in different relational networks: surface structure, syntactic structure, local semantic structure (the microstructure), the global semantic structure (the macrostructure), and the mental model (Johnson-Laird, 1983) or the activated situation model (van Dijk & Kintsch, 1983).
