ABSTRACT

The general education classroom is the location of choice for educating students with learning disabilities (LD). In fact, it is likely that over the next few years considerable effort will be expended to reconsider general education so that it is better suited to meet the needs of all students with disabilities. This reconsideration will no doubt include an examination of professional development (at the preservice and inservice levels), curricula and standards, teacher planning, monitoring and adaptating, and the classroom climate that supports individuals with disabilities. This chapter addresses teacher and student interactions with consideration of the classroom climate and the adjustments that will need to occur to ensure successful inclusion for students with LD.
