A grounded view of small business

It should be apparent as the argument has unfolded in this book that theory and evidence go hand in hand, according to the methodology we have deployed throughout. In Chapter 1, a set of models from industrial organization (monopolistic competition, dominant firm with a fringe of competitors, conjectural oligopoly), and a detailed framework of analysis from business strategy (competitive strategy and competitive advantage), suitably modified for small firms, were presented as the tools of analysis for the work before us. In the course of six chapters these tools have been put to work in a detailed way on our Profiles sample.
