Medium market concentration
To continue our within-site analysis, we present a further set of seven Profiles. They relate to SBEs which operate in medium market concentration environments. The SBEs chosen from the parent sample are indicated in Table 3.1. These SBEs have very small market shares (typically <1 per cent) within large markets, produce goods which are subject to little product differentiation and enjoy quite high levels of capacity utilization. We have chosen to view these SBEs as fringe competitors in a dominant firm/competitive fringe market model.1 As before, the developments in this chapter provide a further basis for ‘grounding’ the theory of the SBE, and are intended to advance by another step the systematic presentation of evidence for use in the comparative analysis of Part III.
