ABSTRACT

As society rides the crest of the information age wave, futuristic predictions become pedestrian. Numerous societal conventions and rules are being transformed in the wake of the ability to transmit data in dichotomous bits of information. Although the information superhighway is only beginning to materialize, it is important to consider the potential educational ramifications of embracing this massive, multiaccess information turnpike. In what ways will schools connect to, collect, and share this information? How might students be apprenticed in their initial attempts to drive the highway and form new learning collaborations? What new learning and collaboration patterns will occur? What level of dialogue will occur between students of differing grade levels, nationalities, and domain interests within global information networks?
