Perhaps it is an attempt to elucidate the proverb and to bring out the full meaning of “ w e a l t h ” in Prv as Ben Sira understood it, or perhaps Ben Sira merely took the proverb and used it for his own purposes without intending to focus attention on the original text. Only the former would be midrash.
