ABSTRACT

While browsing through Webster's Unabridged Dictionary the other day I came across the word “educe” along with its forms “education” and “eductive.” I remembered that Spearman had used the term long ago when he wrote about “education of relations,” but I had always thought he had trouble with his spelling. I find myself now in much the same position as the young person who was so pleased to discover that he had been speaking prose all of his life.
