ABSTRACT

Current Open Building research, publications and realized projects focus primarily on the relationship between base building and infill. As an approach to environmental intervention, OB also fundamentally involves issues of urban design, and although not always explicitly referenced, it builds on a substantial body of related urban scale work. A great deal of applied research on urban tissues, notably during the SAR era, has led to the creation of methodologies for structuring work, establishing the bounds of each profession and recording agreements in combined graphic and text form at the urban scale.
