Richard Brooks, the Brick Foxhole

According to the author’s note, the brick foxhole is a barracks, in this particular context just outside of Washington, DC, within which are soldiers who, because of their special qualifications, will never be assigned to active duty in the war. “This is a novel about a handful of men who happen to be trapped in a brick foxhole” (p. vii). It might also be considered the story of the murder of a gay man and its aftermath.
