Blair Niles, Strange Brother

Mary Blair Rice (188?-1959) adopted the last name of her second husband, Robert Niles Jr., for her work as a historical and romantic novelist. She was also a travel writer, and her approach to homosexuality in Strange Brother (Horace Liveright, 1931) is almost that of an anthropologist. She spends much time documenting gays in history and discussing, in semiacademic terms, writers with something to say on homosexuality, love, or both, from Plato to Walt Whitman.
