The Library agreed to purchase a copy of all records not already in our MARC fIle for $0.3705 per record. The fIle conversion was completed in the fall of 1987. The entire operation involved 4.7 million records and cost the Library approximately $1,900,000. Carrollton Press named its version, which it marketed to the public, REMARC. The Library calls its version PREMARC. It is important to make the distinction between the two because although they were initially identical, there has been no attempt to keep the two files in sync, and over the years they have diverged.
