UNIÓN D E CENTRO DEMOCRÁTICO This centre-right party started life as a coalition of small centre and moderate right-wing parties and was headed by ALFONSO SUÁREZ. It won the first two democratic elections in Spain in 1977 and 1979, although it did not receive a majority vote. Electoral defeat in 1982 led to its disappearance.
