ABSTRACT
VÁZQUEZ MONTALBÁN, M A N U E L (1939-) Enormously popular writer of thrillers, featuring the detective Pepe Carvalho. Very well known throughout Spain, through his writing of a weekly column in EL PAÍS. His novel Los mares del sur was awarded the Premio Planeta in 1989. His last book is Un polaco en la corte del Rey Juan Carlos (1996), a collection of interviews with important Spaniards. In 1996 he also published El premio, the twentieth novel in which Pepe Carvalho appears.
