ABSTRACT

Additionally, Bābur used Kabul as a base for his military expeditions against Kandahār, Central Asia, and neighboring Afghan tribes in the Kābul Valley. By 1523 he had managed to quell dissent in Afghanistan sufficiently to allow him to launch an invasion of India. Within three years he had defeated Ibrāhīm, the last Lodī Afghan ruler of India, and was able to establish the Mughal Empire, which eventu ally came to control a large portion of the Indian subcontinent. Kābul was the capital of a province within the empire.
