ABSTRACT
Dhākā's long history has been somewhat overshadowed by its role as the modern capital of Bangladesh. Once the East Bengal province of India, later East Pakistan, Bangladesh was founded among much turbulence in 1971 and has continued to see upheaval ever since. Dhākā, however, has been a significant site since the seventeenth century.
