ABSTRACT

Pace, Doctor , H8 2.2.122, Richard, (d. 1532), Henry VIII's secretary, predecessor in that office to Stephen Gardiner, bishop of Winchester. Pace also served Henry as an ambassador. His most important mission was an attempt in 1524 to persuade the college of cardinals to elect Wolsey pope. Sh. assumes that Pace was dead before the pope permitted a court to consider Henry's case for an annulment of his marriage with Katherine of Aragon, but Pace actually died some years after the hearing.
