ABSTRACT

Cade, Jack, 2H6, (d. 1450), leader of a popular uprising aimed at the ouster of Henry VI's advisors and the reform of the fiscal policies of his government. Cade's identity is uncertain. Some sources say that he was an Irishman, but the name 'Cade' was relatively common in Sussex where Cade first appeared as a member of the household of a Sir Thomas Dacre. An indictment on a charge of murder prompted him to flee to the continent.
