ABSTRACT

The work of development is guided by the brief for the particular phase of work, which may cover one or more exhibitions, or only part of an exhibition. In general, it is convenient in a museum if each phase spans one to two years. This allows new exhibitions to be presented to the public at acceptable intervals, as argued in Chapter 6. Longer intervals are liable to lead to the criticism that the museum never does anything new, and so are very short intervals, because they will give the impression that no changes are ever made apart from minor ones.
