Amelioration of Prostitution.
THE amelioration of prostitution has a twofold operation. It should be directed to the healing and cure of prostitutes suffering from disease, and also to accomplishing their social and moral elevation. Up to a very recent period I had believed that this was the wish of all interested in the welfare of women in the United Kingdom. My readers may imagine with what deep regret I read in the last issued report (the 11th) of the Medical Officer of the Privy Council his official enunciation of the startling donbt " Whether the venereal diseases of thecivilpopnlaiion are henceforth to be deemed 'mettler of public concern ?"
