ABSTRACT
Popular unrest was a rather frequent occurrence in Ottoman Cairo, and various aspects of it have been discussed in studies on Ottoman Egypt published in recent years.! In this study it is our aim to analyse this phenomenon systematically and to re-examine some conclusions of former studies.
