ABSTRACT

Determining your assessment guidelines is a very important step in developing a Web-based learning event. Assessments allow the facilitator to determine if learners have achieved the learning event's objectives, and the information from assessments can be used, in part, to evaluate the overall success of the learning event. In this chapter, three components of assessment are discussed. The first is constructing well-designed test questions. The second is computer-managed learning, an instructional management tool that allows assessments to be delivered and marked online. Finally, assignments are discussed as a means for assessing higher-order objectives. Assignments give learners an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learnt about the topic in a less restrictive testing environment.
