ABSTRACT
Among the factors that might affect the design of courseware is the structure of the subject matter itself. Just as courseware might be adapted to differences among individual learners, it can also be adapted to differences in subject matter structures. The intent of this chapter is to describe structures of subject matter knowledge and indicate how courseware might adapt to these structures.
