ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to suggest some areas of problem solving that recent research has examined inadequately or neglected altogether. I will identify themes that deserve increased attention on the basis of logical examination or research in other areas that shows these themes to be relevant and important. I hope this discussion will stimulate additional research on problem solving and result in a better understanding of the process of learning to solve problems and a clearer picture of how this learning can be enhanced in classrooms.
