ABSTRACT

All students require focused teaching at the right level to support their learning, develop the concepts and ideas of science and help them form mental models to enable them to understand the science. The danger is this can be too structured and focus too much on developing a bed or paradigm of factual knowledge. In all students we must try to develop a sense of wonder, a feeling of awe when they see something new, but the joy for the gifted student comes in the attempt to explain for themselves what lies behind the event. As I. Pavlov stated: ‘Do not become a mere recorder of facts, but try to penetrate the mystery of their origin.’
