Seizures types

Seizures fall into two groups –

generalised seizures in which electrical activity occurs across the whole of the brain and during which consciousness is impaired;

partial seizures which are restricted to only part of the brain (the ‘focus’, sometimes termed ‘focal epilepsy’) and during which consciousness may or may not be impaired.
