Future prospects – towards inclusive education for all

Introduction This chapter summarises a study in five schools that explored the impact of race, class and gender on the interactions of pupils and teachers in the classroom setting and school in general. The research sought to investigate the processes involved that help to explain the differential rates of school exclusion between pupils of different ethnic backgrounds, social class and gender. The research has focused on the often delicate balance between power and resistance.
