Observational learning Learning through imitation or by copying the performance, actions or behaviour of others. It can be incidental – that is learning through a chance opportunity – or intentional – that is through teachers creating opportunities for observational learning. This type of learning requires the pupil to be attentive to the teacher, retentive of observed knowledge and skills, to recall and imitate actions and behaviour and to be motivated to learn. Children with learning difficulties can lack concentration, fail to retain information or reproduce skills, and lack motivation, so making it difficult for them to learn through observation.
