Questioning strategies Questioning strategies are used to stimulate the thinking processes of pupils who are engaged in reading activities. Questioning should be planned so as to stimulate explanation, evaluation and judgement. Examples of questioning strategies are: asking for literal comprehension of the text; interpretations of the text; and critical and creative readings of the text. Self-questioning strategies are those that pupils develop for themselves and consist of them asking themselves questions about the text.
