ABSTRACT

The screeching cry of the seagull is strongly associated with the seashore, but these birds are often to be found inland feeding on open fields and swimming in freshwater lakes. The larger herring gulls can also be found feeding at rubbish tips. In the first activity, the children recall their observation on their beach trip of seagulls in flight and walking on the seashore, but are also asked to look out for seagulls in the local fields as they feed. A visit to the local park may also provide an opportunity to observe these familiar birds.
