ABSTRACT

Comprehension is one of the key study skills that secondary students with dyslexia need to develop and master as it is central to successful learning across the curriculum. This chapter addresses the issue of comprehension suggesting that students should be encouraged to think about those subjects, or areas of subjects, that they find hard to understand. Checklists for teachers and LSAs and a worksheet for students are provided so that comprehension can be assessed and strategies, teaching approaches and resources to facilitate understanding are discussed. Particular attention is paid to improving reading comprehension of English at Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).
