Classroom management to raise achievement

In this chapter, we consider a menu of strategies that year groups, departments or individual teachers could use to help raise achievement: they are the micro strategies mentioned in Chapter 3. They are not normally wholeschool strategies, although there is no reason why every teacher in the school could not adopt them, but have been discussed and adopted by the subject departments (in secondary schools) or by year or key phase groups in primary schools. There is no reason why individual teachers should not adopt individual strategies, but our experience suggests that these strategies can be undermined if other colleagues, teaching similar pupils in the same subject/key phase, do not give support.
