Why do boys under-achieve?
Probably the most debatable aspect of the generally controversial issue of boys' achievement is that of the cause of the problem. It is rich territory for the nature versus nurture debaters. Although the arguments normally engender more heat than light it is a valuable one to be had if you are interested in bringing about change. It does capture interest and reflection and forces the different sides to focus on the nature of learning, gender characteristics and pupils as individuals. The debate itself can be a catalyst for change.
