ABSTRACT

It would perhaps have been obvious to choose a more recent work to illustrate the most relevant points here, but Luciano Berio’s piece written in 1966 is not only historically very important in terms of new virtuosic techniques, it is also important in terms of a number of other subjects brought up in the first five parts. Its title makes one think of Darmstadt parametric thinking. Whether this is true or not will become clear in the next few pages.
